3...2...1...Lego

gibson has been busy on hutchinson's lego league team since august and on saturday, january 4th, 2014, the team performed at regional competition in elk river, mn.
rachel, ella, allysa, charlie, michael, luke, dj, jordan, connor, and gibson
coaches: mrs. dohlman and dan scheele

our pit number and schedule for the day
getting prepped for the first event
 gibson is very nervous
what a great group of kids!
waiting anxiously before they present their robot design and programming to the judges
their presentation and gibson was supposed to be sharing the programming features, but it think her nerves got to her. luckily, i don't think she would have got a word in because dj was all over it! whew!

having some fun on the practice board in between events (this day started at 5:15am and we were home by 7:45pm)
the team had three tries at the board with their robot missions. their top score was 363! this seemed to be a very impressive run.
if you can imagine lights are off and then the tables are spotlighted and music blaring. pretty exciting for everyone!

the team making some spirit posters. so cute!
the team going over to another team that was struggling at the board in the first round.
this is an overview of the "pit" gym. again music thumping and the score board with lights flashing. wow!

 another run at the board.

the team received three awards. they won the head to head competition for their division, they got first in programming, and first in their project/ presentation. the presentation can be view on youtube by looking up hutchinson lego league and there are more pictures on facebook by searching the same name.
most exciting is that they won overall in their division and are going to state in february!
so proud of her gold medal.

state bound!

there's no place like home

merry christmas! here is a look back at our 2013 holiday season!

way back in november the girls put together an operation christmas shoebox for an older girl in need.
they were so thrilled with all of their selections and really hoped that the girl liked purple as that seemed to be the theme for the box
chaya added a lovely letter and it reminds them that not everyone is able to get gifts like them.
squirrel! our thanksgiving table done by chaya
dome action for the hutch tigers as they won state, again!
the boys looking on as hutch dominates!
quick stenciling crafts to add to some holiday decorations

rice krispie trees, not as easy as they look. i think we still had fun!
 santa wine
 my classroom parent gift project
 sunday school program.
christmas memories after interviewing a ninety-three old woman from our church. very well done, best one!
my lame attempt at cut-out cookies. as you can see we couldn't actually cut them out and the frosting was everywhere. they still tasted yummy and we had fun doing them!
our church decided to have a nativity sunday display. great idea and so many variations. the one below was gifted to me by my parents in 1992, my parents made it. love it's simplicity.
 here are a few more

our diy gifts; we made lots of jars of peppermint candy cane hand and body scrub.
drew worked a lot of christmas break so we celebrated a bit differently this year. our christmas eve was before he left for work and christmas morning was when he got home (very shortened versions), all a day ahead of the "real" dates as we would be out of town for the next week traveling back and forth between families. this is something we haven't done in a long time. it is a good thing our church does a travelers christmas eve service that we were able to be at as kenya's confirmation class led the service and drew played drums.
the girls and i decided to sew fleece pillowcases. all for a whopping $10.63.

they turned out awesome!
christmas eve girl's box. pajamas, movie, and bananagrams (which was a huge hit over break with family)
 dad's new ornament
the girls got to open their gifts from each other, too. kenya's plunger stand for her phone was especially funny after what happened to her and gibson a couple days prior if you know what i mean.
happy birthday jesus cake. it is a red and green poke cake. we did this one about five years ago, so we thought we'd do it again. it is so festive and yummy!

my surprise gift, drew got me good with his presentation
christmas celebration at grandma and grandpa torgerson's new house in milford, ia

 game time

cup stacking gone mad (76 yogurt cups oh my)

gift wrapping, one hand behind back. the adults had to do it blindfolded.

christmas at the grandma and grandpa gilmore's (on two separate occasions)

we're off to see the wizard, the wonderful wizard of oz. at the ordway that is...
 an amazing production
 the orchestra pit
chaya, erin, and gibson were in the third row from the front

thanks patty and kent
time for some gilmore bowling fun!
 newlyweds
look, a turkey for me. i was the big winner!
 twins (almost)
 brotherly love

happy new year!!
