Branson!

we've arrived to the infamous branson! the first stop up sunday afternoon was silver dollar city park. for those that aren't familiar with this attraction, it is an amusement park with several theaters that have special performances throughout the day.
grandma and grandpa spoiled us, we went sunday and monday.
on the tram to get to the park (it was ridiculously hot, too!)

one of the shows we took in was in this saloon, it was a comedy along with some singing. the guy in the plaid pants was in need of finding a lady friend and cracked one of his one-liners near me. i became very nervous as i wanted nothing to do with being part of the show. the funny part was after the show the gentleman asked if i was one of the "dance moms" from t.v. i've never seen the show, but he was sure that i looked just like one of them. still not sure if that is a good thing or not. pretty funny though.
all ready to get wet on the lost river ride
 this is crazy...
it was hot and we are ready to get cooled off. we got soaked and even went back again on monday for some more!
so, in between the gazillion bubble show and the saloon show grandma suggested this giant barn swing as a ride. (she mentioned she did it once before) in a rush, the girls and i all agreed to "do it". i'm thinking if grandma can do it, so can i. right? WRONG - i'm in the middle next to the boy with green squeezing the heck out of chaya's hand. this ride reached speeds of 50 mph and was parallel to the ground (i felt like i was going to fall out) the boy next to me was a riot and i kept telling him it wasn't fun and that i didn't have enough time to think this decision through. "breath in though your nose and out through your mouth." needless to say, we didn't do this ride again. i'm not even sure the girls liked it that much. good memories!
evening performance at the park. this was a comedy show with a lot of great country music selections. very good singers and dancers.
more rides, thundernation - a rollercoaster favorite
the powder keg rollercoaster was another favorite, but the line was much longer.
electro spin - this was a different ride that rotated around as it went back and forth on a track. drew and i liked this one.
the girls on the big swings
chaya and drew on the train ride through the park. there was even a "stick-up" on the train. grandma was suppose to play the part of the robbers mother - she wasn't quite sure what to think of that. hee hee.
other parts of our stay included swimming at the resort pool, a tour of the branson area from grandpa to show us all sorts of attractions, a dinner and sampling of shows at the resort, a hike, plus other fun times. the above picture is of the ladies restroom at shoji's theater - very elaborate.
we took the girls to the butterfly palace and rainforest experience. they had a mirror maze that was really fun, too. i had so many pictures of butterflies, i decided to only show a few favorites.

this gecko thing was so cool, it looked just like tree bark and it's back legs were tucked underneath.
not quite sure what to think...
 coconut climb

drew and i finished off the trip with a date day of our own. we took in the pierce arrow show which was a hysterical comedy show mixed with a group of four (good looking) men singing a variety of songs. we had second row tickets and it was a lot of fun. we went to branson landing for some shopping and then out to dinner at a steak and oyster restaurant. oh, and then we all got to view fireworks for the 4th of july from afar at the resort! what a lovely trip. thanks grandma and grandpa t. for showing us your home away from home.

branson or bust

part 1: on friday, june 29, 2012, we left hutchinon and headed south. our first destination was kansas city, ks! we drove a majority of the day.
the car ride was great and for the most part pretty easy. when the entire trip was said and done we listened to the entire wayside school collection of three books! the kids (and us) loved them.

 playing around
pretty hibiscus pots at erin's pool

friday night we watched erin play sand volleyball (kenya even got to play, too) we went out to eat with the team and the rest of the gilmore family. then, saturday morning we started with an extended run (thanks drew for the detour) you could say we were lost in kc and i had had about enough of it! followed that up with an enjoyable family breakfast then it was pool day! it had to be high 90s or even 100!
patty, drew, and laura taking it easy poolside.

did someone say chicken fight?
 chaya and gibson meant business

chaya going for the kill shot, eventually chaya won!
then we all got ready for another fabulous night out to celebrate erin's birthday!

 so much fun!

chef chaya

chaya all ready for her 7th birthday baking bash!

tablescape and my favorite, the cupcake liner garland hanging down on the window.
first up, the girls needed to decorate their chef hats with a cupcake liner flower.
all done and ready to bake!
livia, ava, cora, chaya, avery, and mckenna
all the girls made their own personal cheese pizza
busted... cora totally snitching the cheese
mckenna and livia making sure it is just right
 yummy!
after gift opening the classic tissue paper toss
 looking stylish
100 cookie cutter match up game. each girl had their own board with 10 shapes and they had to dig through the pile to find their unique shapes.
time to blow out your candles
after eating the cake, each girl decorated their own giant sugar cookie to take home
pinata time! chaya really wanted to have a pinata. so, when i found the cupcake design i figured it would be perfect!

goodie bag with muffin mix and cupcake liners
